'i love the secret faces' Alan McGee (Creation Records)
Hailing from South Wales, The Secret Faces have produced several loud and raucous gigs over the last twelve months, playing at any given chance to continue to spread their word. Support slots have been filled for the likes of The Gift (Former Jam Bassist Rick Bucklers band) The Animals and also Spencer Davis. Inspired by fellow Welsh rockers the 60 Foot Dolls and local band The Pocket Devils, with a sound reminiscent of a young angry Paul Weller they seem to have good pedigree, coupled with a strong work ethic.
Lead singer and guitarist Wayne Morgan’s love of music has come in no small part from The Pocket Devils. They offered inspiration for the young guitarist, being local lad’s from the same side of the track who were ‘doing it.’ The spark was enough for him to pick up the guitar at the age of 12 and ‘bash away for hours.’ Wayne watched The Pocket Devils play as often as he could and told me during a chat that the blame for him ‘becoming a mod’ lies with the band’s former frontman Jon Owen.
Wayne hunted down the other member of the band and convinced them to form the Secret Faces – consisting of bassist Mitchell Casey, lead guitarist Andy Price and drummer Anthony Hicks. The band have worked closely with clothing company Three Stroke Productions, who have given the band ongoing support. The fresh British clothing brand’s mod attire fits in neatly with the Secret Faces aesthetic. The band’s Myspace has a number of strong songs showcasing not only Wayne’s gravelly tones but also the tightness within the band. Moments of balls-out rock are present in spades with tracks like ‘History’, ‘In My Day’ and ‘My Generations Kids’.
The band is currently taking some time off from their busy touring schedule to enter the studio to record some new songs. Wayne is excited about the prospect of getting the new songs recorded and into the ears of their ever-growing army of fans. Big things are expected from this band but its no more then the expectations they’ve put onto themselves.
'Liked what i heard - a modernist flavour with a refreshing 60's aftertaste NICE!' - John Hellier (Wapping Warf)

'classic '78 punk - I enjoyed it' Eddie Piller (Acid Jazz)
“Anger is an energy” as Johnny Lydon AKA Johnny Rotten once sung, and at ZANI we certainly agree with this statement. Anger is an emotion that makes you want to take up arms and be heard, and one of the best ways to make the world sit up and listen is music.
This is exactly what a perky and powerful five-piece band from the Valleys of South Wales, called The Secret Faces are doing. Like their forefathers The Jam, The Who, The Buzzcocks, The Libertines and Oasis, these kids are pissed off….
With a name that seems to pay homage to Secret Affair and The Small Faces, here we have another collection of beautiful angry young man. The Secret Faces are Wayne Morgan (Vocals/Guitar), Daniel Bryan (bass), Andrew Price (guitar) Jason Edwards (Guitar) and Anthony Hicks (drums). With gravelly vocals, a powerhouse rhythm section and two pronged guitar attack, their sound is full, melodic and edgy. The anger sweeps through, as the music hits you in the face with 100 per cent accuracy. These boys know how to pen a tune and they play their songs like their life depends on it, and that is surely a good thing.
2010 could be a good for them, as in 2009 they have already won critical acclaim from the likes of Alan McGee (co-Founder Creation Records) , Ex The Jam Rick Buckler , John Hellier (Whapping Wharf) and a few more.
With a bit of lady luck The Secret Faces might go all the way. If they do, these lads will always have that heart-felt anger that has made them endearing to ZANI.
